Revenge of the Dork
After the doc premiered at the Wisconsin Film Fest a producer from Wisconsin Public Radio contacted me and asked if I would give an interview about Nerdcore for a piece about nerds he was putting together for a WPR show called To The Best of our knowledge. I love talkin' about nerd stuff to anyone that will listen so of course I said yes.
A few months back I actually did an interview for Austrian Public Radio (no that is not a joke) and I assumed the WPR interview would go the same way. But To the Best of Our knowledge is syndicated all over the frickin' place and apparently the people who produce it don't screw around. When I told them I worked in downtown Chicago they asked if I would be willing to go to the Chicago Public Radio studio at Navy Pier to tape my interview. I played it cool and said yes but of course behind the scenes I was super psyched. I mean come on! The WBEZ studios? That's where they record This American Life. It would be well worth the trip (and the $19 to park) to get a look at the studio and even though I've now been called out as a "dork" on National Public Radio, I feel just a tiny bit cooler for the experience.
WPR posts a podcast of the entire episode and if you'd like to hear it (why wouldn't you?) you can click the image above. My interview starts about a quarter of the way in and last for like 10 minutes. Seriously, it's me...on NPR...for 10 minutes...talking about my favorite Nerdcore rappers. Hmmm, maybe it's time I finally became a subscriber.
